Liverpool have reportedly held talks with representatives of RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai as they look to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season. The 22-year-old was one of the standout performers in the Bundesliga last season and has also drawn interest from Newcastle.

According to the Athletic, Liverpool are exploring a deal to sign Szoboszlai this summer, but they face a race against time as his £60m release clause is set to expire on June 30. If they don’t act quickly, they could risk being priced out by Leipzig.

Szoboszlai is high on the agenda for Jurgen Klopp’s side, alongside Kephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia. Liverpool have already recruited Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m, but they seem to be intent on adding more depth to their midfield.

Newcastle are also thought to be interested in Szoboszlai, and with Tottenham closing in on a deal for James Maddison, the Magpies may redouble their efforts to sign the Hungarian.

Szoboszlai has represented Hungary 32 times and scored 10 goals for Leipzig last season in 48 matches. He could prove to be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s midfield, but it remains to be seen if they can get the deal over the line.

Thuram, who is currently in action for France under-21s at the European Championships, is highly regarded by the Anfield club, but it’s unclear whether Nice will be willing to sell. Liverpool will need to act quickly if they want to secure their targets before the transfer window closes.
