According to recent reports, Manchester United are set to make a formal approach to Brighton for the highly-rated midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuador international has been a target for several top clubs, including Chelsea, who had a £60m bid rejected earlier this month.

United have been in the market for a midfielder this summer, with manager Erik ten Hag keen to upgrade his options in the middle of the park.

Mason Mount and Declan Rice have been two of their top targets, but with Chelsea having had three bids rejected for Mount, United have turned their attention to Caicedo.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form for Brighton since joining the club last year, and his performances have caught the eye of several top clubs.

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi has previously stated that he would allow Caicedo to leave if an important club made an offer, and with United reportedly ready to offer £80m for the midfielder, it seems Brighton may be willing to do business.

Caicedo is a versatile midfielder who can play in a variety of positions, including as a defensive midfielder, box-to-box midfielder, or attacking midfielder. He has excellent technical ability, is a strong tackler, and has a keen eye for goal.

If United are able to secure Caicedo’s signature, it would be a major coup for the club. He has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world, and his addition would add depth and quality to a United midfield that has been lacking in recent years.

However, United will face stiff competition from Chelsea and other top clubs, who are also keen on signing the talented midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether United’s reported offer will be enough to convince Brighton to sell, but if they are able to secure Caicedo’s services, it would be a significant statement of intent from the Manchester club.
