Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has recently changed his opinion on the best player he has played with at Anfield. Previously, he had named Virgil van Dijk as the most talented player he has shared the pitch with, but he has since backtracked on this and selected Egyptian forward Mo Salah instead.

Alexander-Arnold praised Salah’s consistency in scoring goals, which he believes is the hardest thing to do in football. Salah has been one of the most lethal goalscorers in Europe since joining Liverpool in 2017, and his 186 goals for the club have him sitting joint-fifth on the Reds’ all-time top goalscorers list.

Despite Liverpool’s struggles for consistency this season, Salah was one of their star performers, ending the campaign with 30 goals and 16 assists in all competitions. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold also recovered from a slow start to the season and ended the campaign with four goals and ten assists in all competitions, with his standout performance arguably coming in the 3-0 victory over Leicester where he scored a stunning free-kick.

Although Alexander-Arnold is clearly a big fan of his Liverpool colleagues, he was clear on the best player he has come up against in his career – Lionel Messi. Discussing his reasoning, he simply said, “I don’t know, he’s just the best.”

It is clear that Alexander-Arnold has had the privilege of playing alongside and against some of the most talented players in world football during his career so far. His changing opinion on the best player he has played with is a testament to the high standard of football at Liverpool, and it will be interesting to see who else he names in the future as he continues to play alongside and against some of the best players in the game.
