Mason Mount: The Transfer Saga Between Manchester United and Chelsea

Manchester United made an initial bid of £40 million for Mount, but Chelsea rejected it outright. The Blues are holding out for a transfer fee of £70 million, which Manchester United considers too steep. The Red Devils have now made a second bid of £50 million, which Chelsea is yet to respond to.

Mount’s situation is unique, as he has only one year left on his Chelsea contract. If the Blues do not sell him now, they risk losing him for free next summer. Manchester United is aware of this fact and is using it to their advantage in their negotiations with Chelsea.

The interest in Mount is not limited to Manchester United. Liverpool was also interested in signing the young star, but they eventually signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton instead. This leaves Manchester United as the only club currently pursuing Mount.

Mason Mount is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy in Cobham, and he has made 195 appearances for the first team in all competitions. He has scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists, cementing his place as one of Chelsea’s brightest prospects. His performances for Chelsea have also earned him a regular spot in the England national team, with his performances in Euro 2020 drawing praise from fans and pundits alike.

If Manchester United can secure the transfer of Mason Mount, it would be a significant coup for them. The young star would add creativity, energy, and versatility to their midfield, which has been lacking in recent seasons. His ability to play in different positions across the midfield would also give manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more tactical options.

However, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will be able to meet Chelsea’s asking price for Mount. With the transfer window set to close at the end of August, the clock is ticking for both clubs. It is a case of who blinks first in this transfer saga, and only time will tell which club will come out on top.
