The award, presented by Italian newspaper TuttoSport, recognises the most outstanding young player in Europe under the age of 21.
Hojlund, 19, has enjoyed a breakthrough season playing for three different clubs. He started the 2022/23 campaign with Austrian side Sturm Graz before impressively for Atalanta in Italy.
This summer, the Denmark international completed move to Manchester United. He has already scored three goals in his opening Champions League matches for his new club.
Hojlund’s rise has seen him named among the 25 final nominees for the prestigious Golden Boy award. Last year’s winner was Barcelona’s Gavi.
While Hojlund deserves his nomination, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is widely considered the favourite after an incredible start in La Liga. The England international has 10 goals and 3 assists in just 10 games for Los Blancos.
Hojlund has shown glimpses of his talent at United but will need more consistent service in attack from teammates like Marcus Rashford. Improving the coordination between attackers could help the Danish striker challenge for individual honors like the Golden Boy in future seasons.
This nomination is recognition of Hojlund’s promising potential. But United must now focus on helping their young forward continue developing into one of Europe’s best players.
