Liverpool Agree Fee for Romeo Lavia Amid Chelsea I

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a £60 million fee with Southampton for midfielder Romeo Lavia, amid competition from Chelsea for the Belgian teenager.

The Reds’ pursuit of Lavia had taken a backseat as they tabled a British record £111 million bid for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, who now appears set to join Chelsea in a £115 million deal.

Liverpool had seen three offers below Southampton’s £50 million asking price rejected for Lavia, but have now agreed to meet the Saints’ demands.

However, Chelsea also bid £55 million for Lavia last week and the player is said to favor a move to Stamford Bridge over Anfield.

The sudden inflated interest in the 19-year-old Lavia came as Liverpool and Chelsea battled for Caicedo. Now having missed out on the Ecuadorian, Liverpool have been forced to spend more than anticipated to land Lavia.

While the Reds have an agreement with Southampton, Lavia’s preference for Chelsea casts doubt on the deal. Further developments are expected on Monday as Liverpool aim to quickly bring in midfield reinforcements.
