Bayern Munich and Germany players

Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner, Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck, Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Uli Hoeness, and Jupp Kapellmann achieved a rare feat in 1974, winning both the European Cup with Bayern Munich and the World Cup with West Germany.

Real Madrid and World Cup success

In 1998, Christian Karembeu accomplished a similar feat, winning the World Cup with France at France 98′ and also being a member of the Real Madrid team that claimed the Champions League title that year. Karembeu lifted both trophies in the same season, just like the Bayern Munich and West Germany players did in 1974.

Roberto Carlos, the legendary left-back of Real Madrid, achieved the same feat in 2002 when he won the World Cup with Brazil in Korea and Japan. In the same season, Real Madrid emerged as champions of Europe by defeating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in the final held at Hampton Park.

In 2014, a decade after Roberto Carlos’s achievement, Sami Khedira, another Real Madrid player, also won two of the most prestigious trophies in football.

Khedira played a crucial role in successful campaigns on both domestic and international fronts. Unfortunately, he was unable to participate in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina due to an injury, and Mario Gotze’s extra-time goal secured Germany’s victory.

Varane has lifted both trophies

In an incredible year for the Frenchman, Raphaël Varane, who is currently a centre-back for Manchester United, won both the World Cup and the Champions League in 2018.

He first lifted the Champions League trophy with Los Blancos in May 2018 and then went on to triumph with France in Russia.
