Diogo Jota Shines for Portugal with Brace against Luxembourg

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota had a memorable night as he found the back of the net twice for Portugal in their resounding victory over Luxembourg in the Euro 2024 qualifier. The home side dominated the match, securing a comfortable 4-0 lead by halftime in Faro. Jota contributed to the goal fest by scoring Portugal’s fifth goal in the 57th minute.

Jota’s goal came courtesy of an exquisite pass from Bruno Fernandes. The 26-year-old expertly evaded the nearest defender, getting on the end of Fernandes’ delivery and heading the ball in front of him before powerfully striking it past Luxembourg goalkeeper Anthony Moris.

Twenty minutes later, after Portugal had already scored their sixth goal, Jota completed his brace. He seized upon a loose ball in the penalty area when Luxembourg failed to clear their lines, compounding the visitors’ misery as they eventually succumbed to a crushing 9-0 defeat.

With these two goals, Jota’s tally for his country reaches 12 goals in 33 caps. The impressive performance will undoubtedly boost his confidence as he returns to Anfield.
