Manchester United has unveiled the identity of the player who will don the famous No. 7 jersey, previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, which has been vacant for seven months.
Rumours had linked several players to the number, including Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford, who declined an offer to switch from his No. 10 jersey.
According to British media reports, Manchester United has chosen Alejandro Garnacho, a talented youngster who recently signed a long-term contract with the club.
Garnacho made his debut for the first team in April against Chelsea, impressing both fans and coach Erik ten Hag.
Despite being called up to the Argentine national team, Garnacho holds dual nationality and has played alongside Spain’s team. He has been wearing the No. 49 jersey since joining the first team, but he is now set to step up and wear the iconic No. 7 jersey.
When Manchester United makes the official announcement, Garnacho will become the youngest player to wear the No. 7 jersey since Cristiano
Ronaldo took over from David Beckham in 2003, when he was just 18 years old. Ronaldo went on to become a legend at Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid in 2009.
Since Ronaldo’s departure, several players have worn the No. 7 jersey, including Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanchez, and Edinson Cavani.
Now, with Garnacho taking on the iconic number, Manchester United fans will be hoping that he can follow in Ronaldo’s footsteps and become a club legend.
