The Reds got their pre-season underway on Wednesday, as they beat Leeds United 2-0 in Oslo.

Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill got themselves on the score sheet in the second half, as Mason Mount played his first match in United colours.

It’s on to Edinburgh next, where United take on Lyon, before heading away on their USA tour.

The likes of Lisandro Martinez, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane all got minutes in the tank against Leeds, but Ten Hag was without plenty of experienced heads.

When asked by MUTV in Norway, when his ‘full quota’ of players would be back, he said: “I think Saturday.

Those players, most of them will not show up in Edinburgh, as well, because they need time and to have a good training week
“They had to have days off and relaxation. Those players played most games in the last season, so they needed that rest. So then we have to bring them back, but you have to do it carefully – you can’t go from zero to 100.”

It remains to be seen who will be involved in the game against Lyon, but it seems likely that Ten Hag will be taking a cautious approach with his players.

He will want to make sure that they are fully fit and ready for the start of the season, which is now just over a month away.
