Following the recent incident of racial abuse against Vinicius Junior during a LaLiga game, there has been an outpouring of global support for the player, who has been subjected to racially charged insults throughout the season. Raphinha, the Brazilian winger for Barcelona, is the latest player to show his support for Vinicius publicly. During a recent match against Real Valladolid, Raphinha was seen wearing a vest with a message on the front directed at Vinicius.

The message on Raphinha’s vest read, “There will be a war as long as the color of your skin is more important than the shine in your eyes.” This powerful statement is a reminder of the need for equality and respect in football and a message against racism in the sport.

While the Spanish Football Federation’s decision to partially close Valencia’s Mestalla stadium and fine the club for the racist incident is commendable, there is a long way to go in the fight against racism in football. Notably, Vinicius’ red card, which was later rescinded, was a separate issue from the racial abuse incident.
