Chelsea’s British-record signing Moises Caicedo experienced a debut to forget as the Blues fell to a 3-1 defeat away to West Ham on Saturday.

Hoping to build on last weekend’s draw against Liverpool, Chelsea were optimistic of claiming all three points against their London rivals at the London Stadium.

However, goals from Nayef Aguerd and Michail Antonio set the tone for West Ham, with Carney Chukwuemeka’s strike a mere consolation as the Hammers held on.

The loss leaves Chelsea with just one point after two games ahead of Game Week Three. But of greater concern will be new signing Caicedo’s dreadful cameo off the bench.

Brought on for Ben Chilwell in the 60th minute with the score at 2-0, Caicedo’s introduction initially sparked excitement. But the £115 million man endured a nightmare debut.

The Ecuadorian almost gifted a goal after misplacing a pass to Pablo Fornals near his own box. Just minutes later, he conceded a clear penalty with a rash challenge, allowing Lucas Paqueta to score West Ham’s third.

It was a disastrous first appearance for the ex-Brighton midfielder that encapsulated Chelsea’s miserable afternoon. Manager Thomas Tuchel will hope Caicedo can quickly move on and rediscover his best form.

But for now, it was an afternoon to forget for Chelsea’s new British-record signing as the Blues slumped to a disappointing loss across London.
