Manchester United have reportedly increased their bid for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana to just under £43m after their initial offer of up to £38.5m was rejected.

The new proposal includes an initial payment of £38.5m with just over £4m in add-ons, as the Red Devils attempt to secure the services of their manager Erik Ten Hag’s top target.

While Inter had been holding out for around £45m, it is believed that there is optimism that a deal can be reached between the two clubs.

If the transfer is completed, it would see Onana reunited with his former Ajax manager at Old Trafford.

However, finalizing the goalkeeper’s personal terms is not expected to be a formality. Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation has been up in the air since long-term No.1 David de Gea was allowed to let his contract run down and expire.

Talks over a contract extension on lower terms than his previous £375,000-per-week deal had been ongoing, but no agreement was reached and the Spaniard is currently without a club.

While United have returned Dean Henderson to the club after a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, the goalkeeper’s future is uncertain.

Forest are keen to re-sign him and have been in regular contact with United, with a view to making a move happen quickly if given the green light to leave.

Manchester United have also considered signing cheaper alternatives to Onana, such as Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp, due to their budget restrictions.

However, the club has prioritized a move for another of Ten Hag’s top choices after completing a £60m deal for midfielder Mason Mount earlier this week.

The potential acquisition of Onana would be a significant boost for Manchester United, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Cameroon stopper has been a key player for Ajax in recent years and has also impressed during his time at Inter Milan.

In conclusion, Manchester United’s increased bid for Andre Onana highlights their desire to secure a top-class goalkeeper this summer.

While there are still some hurdles to overcome, there is growing optimism that a deal can be reached between United and Inter Milan.
