The Premier League Golden Glove award for the 2022-23 season has been won by David De Gea, the goalkeeper for Manchester United.

During Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday, David De Gea achieved his 16th clean sheet of the season, securing the Golden Glove award for the second time.

Despite his impressive performance, the 32-year-old Spaniard has had a tumultuous season, with uncertainties surrounding his future heightened by the upcoming summer transfer window.

Although rumors suggest that David De Gea’s tenure at Old Trafford could be nearing its conclusion, he has not allowed this to impact his performance throughout the season.

As it stands, he holds the top spot on the Premier League’s clean sheet list, but he has not secured the award outright yet.

While there are three other goalkeepers who could match De Gea’s tally, the likelihood of that happening is low.

Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope, and Alisson Becker each have 13 clean sheets in the current Premier League season, with three games left to play.

If De Gea concedes a goal in his final three games and one of these three goalkeepers maintains a clean sheet, their tallies will be equal to De Gea’s.

This is the second time that De Gea has won the award in his career, previously claiming it in the 2017-18 season.

Despite recent uncertainty over his future at United, he is expected to sign a new contract with the club that includes a reduced salary of around £200,000 per week, bringing him in line with the rest of the team’s defensive players.

Given his inconsistent form this season, fluctuating between brilliant and bizarre performances, it appears that no European clubs were willing to offer him a higher salary.

David De Gea is undoubtedly a goalkeeping legend at Manchester United, having won every major domestic trophy and been on the bench for Jose Mourinho’s Europa League victory in 2017.

He holds the record for the most appearances by any United goalkeeper, with a total of 540, placing him seventh on the all-time list.

With his new contract, it is highly likely that he will surpass both Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville and move into the top five by the time it expires.
