Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been pictured at Liverpool’s AXA training ground after completing his medical ahead of a reported £60million move to the club. The Argentina World Cup winner has been top of manager Jurgen Klopp’s summer wishlist and is expected to provide goals, invention, guile and energy to Liverpool’s midfield next season.

Mac Allister was seen heading into the Merseyside complex on Tuesday evening dressed in a hoodie and dark glasses to obscure his identity, to complete the final piece of the puzzle necessary for a deal to be completed by the end of this week. Following the completion of his medical, Mac Allister is set to join up with the Argentina squad for their upcoming friendlies against Australia and Indonesia.

Liverpool are hoping to get the bulk of their summer arrivals done before the squad reconvenes on July 8 and Mac Allister will be viewed as a perfect start for Klopp. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi had earlier admitted that Mac Allister and in-demand team-mate Moises Caicedo were expected to leave the club this summer.

Speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa on the final day of the season, he said: ‘I think that can be the last game of Alexis and Moises, I’m really sorry. They are two great people and two great players.’ ‘The policy of Brighton is like this,’ De Zerbi then added. ‘I think it’s right they can leave, can change teams and play in a level higher. We are ready. We have to find other big players to play without Alexis and Moises.’

Mac Allister’s imminent arrival at Liverpool is expected to give the club a boost ahead of the new season and add depth to their midfield. Klopp will be hoping that the Argentine can help Liverpool challenge for major honours next season, both domestically and in Europe.
