Luke Shaw Suffers Muscle Injury Set to Miss Weeks of Action

Manchester United have suffered an injury setback with left back Luke Shaw picking up a muscle problem.

The England international will miss a number of weeks according to an injury statement released by the club on Thursday night. Shaw has started both of United’s Premier League games so far this season but will now be sidelined.

The statement from United claimed Shaw is ‘still being assessed’ but the injury is set to rule him out of Saturday’s home match against Nottingham Forest. Tyrell Malacia is expected to replace Shaw at left back.

United manager Erik ten Hag will provide a further update on Shaw’s condition during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

It has been an injury-hit start to the season for the Red Devils. Mason Mount is also facing up to six weeks out with a hamstring injury sustained in Chelsea’s defeat to Tottenham last weekend.

United’s performance levels have come in for criticism as well. They laboured to a narrow win over Wolves in their opener before losing a behind-closed-doors friendly with Burnley. A strong display and result against Forest is needed to lift the mood after slipping to 12th in the table.

Ten Hag will be hoping Shaw’s muscle problem clears up quickly as he looks to strengthen his first-choice defence. But United have work to do to address concerns over their form and fitness in the opening weeks of the new campaign.
