Despite the absence of the suspended Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool started the game on a high note. In the third minute, Szoboszlai opened his goal-scoring account for the Reds with a magnificent left-footed strike, curling the ball into the bottom right-hand corner after a well-executed corner kick. Jürgen Klopp’s men continued their relentless attacking play and doubled their lead in the 22nd minute. A powerful shot from Darwin Núñez ricocheted off the post and deflected off Matty Cash, finding the back of the net.

Liverpool had the opportunity to extend their lead when Joël Matip had a free header in the six-yard area, following an excellent Szoboszlai free-kick, but he failed to convert the chance. Núñez, who started the game after his impressive performance against Newcastle, came close to scoring just before halftime, but his delicate chip over Emi Martínez hit the crossbar.

Shortly after the restart, Cash had a golden opportunity to bring Aston Villa back into the game, but his header was brilliantly saved by Alisson. In the 55th minute, Salah effectively sealed the victory for Liverpool. A well-delivered corner from Andy Robertson was flicked on by Núñez, allowing Salah to tap the ball into the net from close range.

Liverpool’s chances in the remaining 30 minutes were limited, with Trent Alexander-Arnold making a surging run and unleashing a long-range strike before being substituted due to a minor injury. Nevertheless, Liverpool comfortably maintained their lead and secured all three points, climbing to third place in the standings, just two points behind league leaders Manchester City, before the international break.
