Bournemouth stunned the hosts by taking a 3rd minute lead through Antoine Semenyo after Liverpool lost possession deep in their own end. However, Luis Diaz equalized with an acrobatic volley in the 28th minute.

Liverpool were then awarded a penalty when Joe Rothwell made contact with Dominik Szoboszlai in the box, and the midfielder went down. Mohamed Salah’s penalty was saved by Neto but he slotted home the rebound to make it 2-1.

The Reds’ Alexis Mac Allister was shown a straight red card in the 58th minute for a late challenge on Ryan Christie, giving Bournemouth hope.

But going down to 10 men seemed to galvanize Liverpool, and Diogo Jota turned in Szoboszlai’s deflected shot that was parried by Neto to make it 3-1 in the 62nd minute.

After drawing 1-1 at Chelsea last weekend, Liverpool now have 4 points from their first 2 games, while Bournemouth have just 1 point. Despite the early setback and red card, Liverpool’s quality shone through to secure the win.
