Liverpool are on the verge of losing yet another midfielder this summer as Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Fabinho has completed his medical with Al Ittihad. The Brazil international was the subject of a £40m bid from the Saudi Pro League side recently and has not travelled to Asia with the rest of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

This comes as a major blow to Liverpool who have already seen James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and Jordan Henderson leave the club this summer. With Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai joining the club, Liverpool’s engine room is set to look very different come the start of the new campaign.

Since joining from Monaco in the summer of 2018, Fabinho has become recognized as one of the best deep-lying midfielders in the world. He has been a mainstay in Liverpool’s midfield, playing a vital role in their Champions League and Premier League triumphs.

However, Fabinho did struggle for consistency last season, and with the emergence of youngster Curtis Jones, it remains to be seen how much of an impact his departure will have on the team.

Many supporters will be pleased that the Reds are set to receive £40m for the Brazilian, which will provide some much-needed funds for Klopp to strengthen his squad further. After winning every major trophy with the club, it’s a shame that Fabinho, as well as Henderson, will not get a proper Anfield farewell, but all good things must come to an end.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that Klopp has a plan in place to replace Fabinho and continue the team’s success, but for now, they will be left to ponder what might have been if he had stayed.
