Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side are set to take on Newcastle in search of their fifth consecutive victory against the Newcastle United. However, Klopp is facing several selection challenges this weekend, with a number of players potentially missing out.
After opening their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea and securing a 3-1 win against Bournemouth with 10 men, Klopp has some decisions to make regarding his starting lineup. In his pre-match press conference, the manager revealed that one of his defenders is uncertain for the upcoming clash.
While fans continue to call for squad investment, Klopp will have to rely on the available members of his current squad for the match.
Here is a breakdown of the players who are available and those who may miss out for the Newcastle vs. Liverpool match:
Doubtful:
– Ibrahima Konate (muscle)
– Conor Bradley (minor injury)
Unavailable:
– Curtis Jones (knock)
– Thiago (hip)
Liverpool Available squad vs Newcastle United
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian, Jaros, Pitaluga
Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate*, Matip, Gomez, Phillips, Quansah, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Tsimikas
Midfielders: Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Endo, Elliott, Clark, Bajcetic
Forwards: Salah, Gakpo, Diaz, Jota, Nunez, Doak
Good news for Liverpool is that Trent Alexander-Arnold has recovered from an ankle knock sustained in the victory over Bournemouth and will be fit to feature. Stefan Bajcetic is also expected to be available after being on the substitutes’ bench in the previous match.
However, Ibrahima Konate’s participation in Sunday’s game is uncertain as he has not trained since Tuesday due to a muscle injury. Nat Phillips, who trained with the squad during the week, could potentially contend for a place on the bench, despite not featuring in the league since November.
Conor Bradley, who has been sidelined since the beginning of the summer, is not expected to be included in the matchday squad. Curtis Jones and Thiago will be available from Monday onwards but won’t be in contention for this weekend’s game.
On a positive note, Alexis Mac Allister is available after his three-match suspension was overturned following a successful appeal.
Liverpool’s available squad for the Newcastle match includes options in goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, with the likes of Alisson, Van Dijk, Salah, and Jota among those ready to contribute.
As Klopp finalizes his lineup, he will need to navigate the selection challenges and make the most of the players at his disposal to secure another victory against Newcastle.
