Liverpool have reportedly made preliminary contact with Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné, who is expected to leave the German club this summer.

The 22-year-old France U21 international has played 30 Bundesliga games this season, scoring once and registering one assist. Koné has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Newcastle United, but it seems Liverpool have made the first move.

While Mönchengladbach rejected Newcastle’s approach last summer, the club is reportedly more open to a departure this year, and Koné is set on leaving the club. However, Koné is unlikely to make a decision on his next destination before the end of June.

In addition to Koné, Liverpool have also held talks with Khéphren Thuram, a fellow French midfielder who currently plays for OGC Nice. L’Équipe reported yesterday that Liverpool have already entered into discussions with Thuram, who is also 22 years old.

If Liverpool end up signing Koné, he would add depth to their midfield and provide competition for the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara. With Liverpool looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, adding promising young talents like Koné and Thuram could be a step in the right direction.
