Liverpool FC have confirmed the departure of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who is set to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in a deal believed to be worth £40 million. The 29-year-old departs after five seasons at Anfield, during which he made 219 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 times and assisting nine. He played a crucial role in Liverpool’s success, helping the team win every trophy possible, including the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Fabinho was excluded from Liverpool’s Germany training camp after Al-Ittihad made their bid, and the club has now confirmed the transfer. There were concerns that the deal would fall through as the Saudi Pro League club reportedly couldn’t show proof of funds. However, the issue was later resolved, and Fabinho is now an Al-Ittihad player.

Fabinho is reuniting with Nuno Espirito Santo in Jeddah, having worked under the former Wolves and Tottenham manager as a youngster at Rio Ave. He joins a squad that includes Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and ex-Celtic winger Jota, who all made the switch earlier this summer. Al-Ittihad will kick off their Saudi Pro League campaign away to Al-Raed on August 14.

Although Fabinho’s decision to depart this summer came as a shock, the fee involved would have been difficult for Liverpool to turn down given his age. The Brazilian midfielder made the second-most appearances for Liverpool last season, and his departure leaves a void in the Liverpool midfield that manager Jurgen Klopp will need to fill. Nevertheless, Liverpool fans will remember Fabinho’s contributions to the team’s success and wish him well in his new venture.
