Liverpool FC has secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old midfielder has completed a medical and agreed personal terms to become the first addition to the Reds’ squad this summer.
Mac Allister arrives at Anfield less than six months after helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar last December, capping a highly impressive season with Brighton. He made 112 appearances for the south-coast club, 98 of which came in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists. He faced Liverpool as an opponent on six occasions.
The Argentinian international has 16 caps for his country, with one goal to his name, which came in a 2-0 win over Poland in Group C of their successful World Cup campaign. He made six starts at the tournament and laid on a goal for Angel Di Maria in the final triumph over France.
Mac Allister’s move to Anfield comes after three-and-a-half successful seasons at Brighton following a January 2019 switch from Argentinos Juniors. His Premier League debut came in March 2020. Liverpool will become the seventh club for the midfielder to represent in his career.
Mac Allister expressed his delight at joining Liverpool, saying: “It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started. … It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”
He also expressed his desire to win more trophies with the club and is looking forward to playing with his new teammates. Mac Allister’s addition to Liverpool’s squad will provide more depth to their midfield ahead of the upcoming season.
