Mac Allister is thought to be a priority transfer target for Liverpool this summer, with his versatility and technical ability making him an ideal candidate to slot into Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. The Argentine international can play in a variety of positions, including as a holding player in a double pivot, a box-to-box central midfielder, or even as a traditional number ’10’.

Romano, who is widely regarded as one of the most reliable sources of transfer news, told GIVEMESPORT that negotiations are ongoing, but that there is still work to be done. “Mac Allister is one of the priority targets for Liverpool, but it’s not something completed,” he said. “Let me clarify, because the feeling I had in the last few weeks was ‘Okay, it’s a done deal, Mac Allister will join Liverpool.’ Not yet.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the deal, Liverpool fans will be buoyed by the prospect of addinga player of Mac Allister’s quality to their squad. The 23-year-old has been a key player for Brighton this season, helping the Seagulls secure a mid-table finish in the Premier League. His technical ability, vision and versatility make him an ideal fit for Klopp’s high-energy style of play.

If the deal does go through, Mac Allister could help solve some of Liverpool’s midfield problems. With Georginio Wijnaldum leaving the club to join Paris Saint-Germain, the Reds are in need of a player who can play in a variety of roles and provide a creative spark in the middle of the park. Mac Allister’s ability to operate in a number of positions would give Klopp greater flexibility and allow him to rotate his squad more effectively.

While the deal may not be done yet, Liverpool fans will be hoping that Romano’s update is merely a temporary setback. With the transfer window set to open in just a few weeks, the Reds will be looking to move quickly to secure their top targets and build a squad capable of challenging for silverware next season.
