Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly on the verge of a move to Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. The two clubs have been in talks since Henderson expressed his desire to join former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in Dammam.

Al Ettifaq initially hoped to sign the 33-year-old on a free transfer, but Liverpool were only willing to let him go for a significant fee. A compromise has now been reached, with Liverpool agreeing a deal worth £12 million plus potential add-ons.

Henderson is said to have been lured to the Saudi Pro League by an improved salary and zero tax, but the deal falls short of the initially reported £700,000-per-week offer. With Henderson’s departure, attention will turn to who will replace him as Liverpool captain. Several midfielders have been linked with the club, including Cheick Doucoure from Crystal Palace and Romeo Lavia from Southampton. In addition to Henderson’s potential move, Liverpool midfielder Fabinho is also expected to complete a move to Al Ittihad for around £40 million.
