However, Al-Ettifaq quickly regained control in a thrilling first half, with Henderson setting up Moussa Dembele, known to British fans from his stints at Fulham and Celtic, twice within the first 25 minutes. Dembele’s goals turned the tide in Al-Ettifaq’s favor, giving them a 2-1 lead. The team’s dominance was further solidified when Hamdan Al Shamrani added a third goal in the 68th minute.
This victory brings Al-Ettifaq within three points of league leaders Al-Hilal after five matches. Steven Gerrard, the team’s manager, will be pleased with their progress and the strong performance displayed by his players on the pitch.
Off the field, Al-Ettifaq also had reason to celebrate as they confirmed the arrival of another former Liverpool midfielder, Gini Wijnaldum. The addition of Wijnaldum adds further depth and quality to the squad, bolstering their midfield options.
Looking ahead, Al-Ettifaq’s next challenge will be against Abha following the international break on Saturday, September 16. With their recent success and strengthened squad, they will aim to maintain their positive momentum and continue their ascent up the Saudi Pro League table.
