Barcelona are reportedly set to announce the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City after the Champions League final.

The German midfielder has been a key player for Pep Guardiola’s team this season, scoring 11 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of this month, Gundogan is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Gundogan comes after the Catalan giants failed to sign Lionel Messi, who joined Major League Soccer club Inter Miami.

Manager Xavi Hernandez is keen to strengthen his midfield options, and Gundogan would provide much-needed quality and depth to the squad.

Gundogan will turn 33 in October, but he has shown no signs of slowing down. He joined Manchester City in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund and has established himself as an important member of the team, making over 300 senior appearances for the club.

This season, he posted impressive statistics in the Premier League, averaging 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes, and 1.9 long balls per game, with an 88 percent passing accuracy.

While French champions Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined the race to sign Gundogan, it seems likely that the German midfielder will join Barcelona.

The Catalans sealed the La Liga title last season, but their performances in Europe were disappointing, and they will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Gundogan’s signing would be a significant boost for Barcelona, who are looking to rebuild after a turbulent few years. With his experience, quality, and versatility, he would be a valuable addition to the team and could help them challenge for silverware both domestically and in Europe.
