Positive Signs at Carrington as Lisandro Martinez Returns to Training
There was a promising development at Carrington on Monday as Lisandro Martinez was spotted during Manchester United‘s open training session. The team welcomed back Victor Lindelof after his injury, ahead of the crucial Group A fixture against Bayern Munich. However, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were absent due to illness.
Martinez briefly joined the group as they took to the pitches but then proceeded to engage in individual exercises as part of his ongoing rehabilitation from injury. The Argentine international has been sidelined for nearly three months, with his last appearance for United occurring in the reverse fixture against Bayern Munich in Munich.
Following the visit to Germany, it was revealed that Martinez had experienced a recurrence of a metatarsal issue that had prematurely ended his impressive debut season. Consequently, he underwent surgery and spent some time in his home country before returning to the club.
Although manager Erik ten Hag has indicated that Martinez’s return is still some time away, it is encouraging to see him involved in the day-to-day activities once again, demonstrating progress in his recovery.
Another South American player, Casemiro, also returned to the training ground on Sunday as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.
Additionally, it was announced earlier this month that Tyrell Malacia is on the road to recovery, with the Dutch full-back targeting a comeback in the new year following his surgery.
The return of these players bodes well for United, as they strive to have a full squad available for upcoming matches and competitions.
