Liverpool is currently fighting to secure a place in the top four of the Premier League table, and qualify for next season’s Champions League. Despite a difficult campaign, the Reds have managed to put themselves in contention for a top-four finish, with just three matches left to play.

Manager Jürgen Klopp’s side is currently the outsider still to break into the top four, with Manchester United and Newcastle ahead of them in the table. However, Liverpool’s remaining fixtures are winnable, with a home game against Aston Villa and an away game against already-relegated Southampton to come.

Despite their favorable fixtures, Liverpool still faces an uphill battle to secure a top-four finish. Manchester United faces Bournemouth away next Saturday before hosting Chelsea and Fulham, knowing two wins from those three games will be enough. Newcastle, meanwhile, requires six points from matches with Brighton, Leicester, and Chelsea.

According to predictions site 538, Liverpool has a 25% chance of finishing in the top four, down from 27% before the weekend’s results. Manchester United is given an 86% chance, while Newcastle is given an 87% chance, despite the sides currently being level.

Liverpool’s goal difference is also a concern, as it currently lags behind Newcastle’s goal difference of +32. While Liverpool is the more likely to win all three remaining fixtures, it may not be enough to secure a top-four finish purely on points or because of goal difference.

Despite the odds being against them, Liverpool will be hoping to secure a top-four finish and qualify for next season’s Champions League. It would be an achievement considering the position they were in not that long ago, and a chance to compete against Europe’s elite once again.
