OFFICIAL: Man City signed a 5-year contract with Josko Guardiol for a record fee of 90 million euros

Manchester City have completed the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal.
The 21-year-old Croatian defender becomes the second signing of the summer transfer window for City, following in the footsteps of fellow countryman Mateo Kovacic.
Gvardiol began his senior career at Dinamo Zagreb, where he won two Croatian League titles, one Croatian Cup and a Croatian Super Cup. He then moved to RB Leipzig in 2021, where he made 87 appearances in two seasons, scoring five goals and winning two DFB-Pokal trophies.
Gvardiol is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back or left-back. He is known for his strong tackling, passing ability and aerial presence. He has also represented Croatia at the senior level, winning 21 caps and scoring one goal.
Gvardiol is excited to join City and play under Pep Guardiola. He said: “I have always dreamed of playing in England and to be doing so now with Manchester City is a real honour for me.
“Anyone who saw Manchester City play last season knows they are the best team in the world. To win the Treble says everything you need to know about the quality this team has.
“To be joining City is something very special for me and my family.
“To have the chance to work with Pep Guardiola, too, will be amazing. I know I am not yet the finished article and I am sure my game will progress under the best coach in football.
“To be linking up with Mateo Kovacic will also be special. He’s a top footballer and I hope we can both help City achieve another successful season in 2023/24 and then beyond.”
City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain said: “Josko is a hugely talented young player who has already achieved a great deal in his career.
“He is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back or left-back, and he has all the attributes we look for in a player. He is strong, athletic, good on the ball and he has a great attitude.
“We are delighted to have him join us and we are confident he will be a success at City.”
Gvardiol’s arrival is a major coup for City, who have been looking to strengthen their defence in recent months. He is expected to be a regular starter for the club in the coming years.
