Manchester United midfielder Fred completes move

Manchester United have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Fred has completed his transfer to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, subject to international clearance.

The 29-year-old flew out to Istanbul over the weekend in order to undergo a medical and agree personal terms. United announced on Friday that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs for the transfer.

Fred joined United in the summer of 2018 from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee reported to be around £52 million. He went on to make 213 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 14 goals.

One of Fred’s most memorable strikes came earlier this year against Barcelona in the Europa League, as his goal drew United level and helped them knock out the Catalan giants. He also featured in United’s FA Cup final loss to Manchester City after helping the team lift the Carabao Cup.

A hard-working and energetic player, Fred was deployed in both attacking and defensive midfield roles during his time at Old Trafford. He became a fan favourite for his committed performances and tenacious style of play.

Fenerbahce will be hoping Fred can help drive them forward as they look to improve on a disappointing season last time out. Manchester United now turn their attention to finding a replacement as new manager Erik ten Hag continues his squad rebuild.
