Lisandro Martinez Named in Laureus Team of the Year

Argentina, which includes Lisandro Martinez, was named World Team of the Year at the Laureus Sports Awards 2023.
Martinez, who plays for Manchester United, was a part of the La Albiceleste team that won the World Cup in Qatar, securing their third title.
He was present at the awards ceremony in Paris on Monday, along with his United teammate Christian Eriksen, who received the ‘Comeback of the Year’ award.
Currently, Martinez is recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla last month and is expected to return to action during pre-season.
Following his transfer from Ajax in the summer, Lisandro Martinez joined Manchester United under the leadership of manager Erik ten Hag.
He quickly won over fans with his assertive, authoritative, and enthusiastic style of play.
Martinez scored his first goal for United during a match against Arsenal in January and played a key role in their Carabao Cup victory in February.
He has formed a dependable partnership with Raphael Varane in defense, though the duo is currently out with their respective injuries.
During the World Cup in Qatar, Martinez featured in all but two of Argentina’s matches.
While he was an unused substitute in the final match, he did contribute to his team’s first victory against Mexico after a loss to Saudi Arabia in the opening group game.
Martinez missed out on playing in the final Group C match against Poland, but he did play in the round of 16, quarter-finals, and semi-finals against Australia, the Netherlands, and Croatia, respectively.
After the World Cup celebrations, Martinez returned to action for Manchester United and played in their wins over Bournemouth and Manchester City.
He has made 45 appearances for the team in his debut season, demonstrating his value to the squad.
