Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has called for patience from fans and pundits regarding club-record signing Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker joined the Reds from Benfica last summer for €100 million and has scored 15 goals and provided four assists in 42 games across competitions this season. Despite this, Nunez has faced criticism for his finishing.

Klopp, however, has urged everyone to give the striker time to settle in with a new club, league, and country. Speaking via Fabrizio Romano, Klopp said, “Give him time to settle, it’s so difficult to come into a team which isn’t clicking. Darwin would have scored 20+ goals had we been having a normal season. He needs time to adapt – he had that at Benfica, there was no language issue.”

Nunez is currently Liverpool’s joint second-top scorer in the Premier League alongside Roberto Firmino, both with nine goals, while Mohamed Salah tops the chart with 19. Liverpool has had a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, finishing the season trophyless after competing for a quadruple last season. The club is currently fifth in the league table, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Despite the lack of silverware, Klopp remains optimistic about the future, and believes that Nunez will come good with time. Liverpool fans will hope that the striker can adapt quickly and contribute to a more successful campaign next season.
